Creating a brief

The more you put in, the more you get out

Before we start working on your project we will need to develop a good brief. I have a brief documents that you can download below, or we can have a discussion and I can fill in the brief form while we chat. Download the brief documents either way and familiarise yourself with the questions and any information you need to gather before I start your job. If you have some notes, and as much other information as you can gather ready for this discovery meeting, it will make the process much smoother and more efficient. Remember, you can never send too much information. Once you have your brief collated, read it back as if you were someone coming in cold, to ensure its understandable.

What do I need from you

QUICK BRIEF

This will be the brief document you will use most of the time. I will follow a design concept that is already in place and therefore the brief doesn’t need to be as in depth as a rebrand. Things I need from you include:

​

Project name, and if you have an order number I need to reference

​

Deliverables: what is it you specifically want me to do

​

Copy: please type in and supply any copy

​

Design paramaters: Please supply design concept and also brand guidelines if you have them,
  but if you don’t please supply colours, fonts and some existing collateral/ads you currently use

​

Images: please send the best quality image(s) you have

​

Due Date: when would you like to see the first proof, AND when is this project due for completion

​

Once you have all this together, you can upload into the link on my contact page.

LOGO DESIGN BRIEF (OR NEW BRAND)

I work alongside other senior freelance designers and can bring in the right one for your particular brand. With these kinds of jobs there is obviously going to be a lot more information required. You can download the brief doc below to help you give us the information we need and there is also a process document so you can understand the steps we take to complete this kind of job. Things we will need from you include all the above in ‘quick brief’ as well as (but are not limited to):

Business Description, your 30 second elevator pitch

​

Backstory: how did your business come into being

​

Who are your main competitors: what do you like or dislike about their brands

​

Your target audience: age, gender, income, location, interests etc

​

What you do: what problems do you solve, what sets you apart

​

Emotion/message: How do you want people to feel when they perceive your brand

​

Brainstorming words: Use thesaurus.com to find 5–10 words that describe your brand

​

Tagline/slogan/catchphrase: Do you have one that will be incorporated into your logo/brand

​

Once you have all this together, you can upload into the link on my contact page.
